Student Readiness Revealed: ACT WorkKeys, the Missing Half of Readiness 

A recent ACT research study of 359,000 students reveals that many students who are not college ready meet standards for career readiness, and accountability systems centered on college readiness standards typically underestimate students’ readiness for life after high school.

ACE Recommends College Credit for the WorkKeys NCRC 

In 2025, the American Council on Education (ACE) recommended that colleges and universities in the lower-divisional baccalaureate/associate degree category award up to 9 semester hours of college credit to individuals who earn a WorkKeys NCRC at the Silver, Gold, or Platinum level. 

How Organizations Use WorkKeys 

WorkKeys provides a shared framework used across education and workforce settings, combining assessments and curriculum to support measurable skill development. 

Organizations use WorkKeys to: 

  • Measure foundational workplace skills such as Applied Math, Workplace Documents, and Graphic Literacy through WorkKeys assessments. 

  • Identify skill strengths and gaps across learners or candidates using consistent, job-relevant data. 

  • Build foundational workplace skills using the WorkKeys curriculum aligned directly to the assessment of skill levels. 

  • Support career readiness, program outcomes, and workforce alignment across education and employer partnerships. 

  • Validate and certify foundational workplace skills with the ACT® Workkeys® National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC®).
